Facing is the number of faces a SKU shows of itself! Simply put, it refers to the number of units of any SKU which lines the edge of the shelf and is visible to the customers. This is a powerful tool to influence purchase. Increasing the number of facings gives an imagery of dominance by that SKU/ brand and often influences purchase.
Usually the facings are reflective of market share and higher selling SKUs have more number of facings. The other reason for this is that, since the shelf is also a stocking point, increased facings means more stock of that SKU and lesser chances of empty shelves.
